Treating pain to get you back in action

I have done extensive training in the treatment of orthopedics and sports related disorders. From tennis elbow to sciatica, meniscus injuries and migraines, and just about everything in between, acupuncture can help to restore full range of motion, decreasing pain, and improving athletic performance.

What is Sports Medicine Acupuncture?

With orthopedic disorders, I use an advanced approach that goes beyond the conventional training most acupuncturists receive. My techniques for musculo-skeletal pain and dysfunction utilize the best of the ancient meridian theory along with Western medicine’s detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, muscle strength and imbalance.

I focus not only on the flow of Qi, or energy, in the body, but also on postural alignment, functional range of motion, and manual muscle testing to assess strength and weakness in associated muscle groups.

‘Motor points’ are additional acupuncture points on the body where the nerve communicates with the muscle. Needling these points helps to strengthen weakened muscles and relax contracted muscles, releasing ‘knots’ or ‘spasms’ many of us feel.

When the motor points are combined with traditional acupuncture points, you benefit from the thousands of years of distilled wisdom with the best of contemporary understanding of orthopedic and sports medicine. This is great for the treatment of injuries or simply enhancing your athletic performance.

This style of acupuncture is a wonderful adjunct to your physical therapy exercises, helping to make them even more effective and efficient.
